Los Suziox Ringtone Now Available

// April 20th, 2012 // No Comments » // Videos

Punk Outlaw Records is tickled punk to announce the release of our very first ringtone. That’s right, the kick ass single “Armas Silenciosas” (Silent Arms) from our good buddies down in Medellin, Colombia “Los Suziox” (The Dirty) is out as a ringtone for iPhone users for just 99 measly cents.

Give “Armas Silenciosas” a listen right HERE and if you think you might want this very cool ringtone for yourself then log onto the ringtone store on your iPhone and search for “Los Suziox”.

While you are at it, check out the whole release from Los Suziox “El Fin Justifica los Medios” (The End Justifies the Means). It’s a very popular CD down from one of the most talented bands to come out of Colombia in a while… and that’s saying a lot because the punk music scene there is first rate… trust me, I’ve been there a lot.

Lokekeda… “Medellin Es Punk” Just Released

// March 19th, 2012 // No Comments » // Music, Videos

There is a band down in Medellin, Colombia called Lokekeda (roughly translated means “Left Overs”). They’ve been playing their unique brand of punk music for years and have, through hard work and commitment, been able to put out a CD called “Medellin Es Punk” (really now, must I translate that for you?). There is a bit of metal in their sound and they site bands like “AC-DC” as one of their influences along with punk mainstays like “The Addicts” and “The Ramones”.

They recorded a little ditty called “Espinas Assesinas” which translated means something like “Killer Thorns” or “Killer Spine” (take your pick) for a compilation CD put out by Colombian punk heavyweights I.R.A.

I found myself listening to “Espinas Assesinas” over and over on the old i-Pod so we ended up producing a music video for the song and putting it out on our “Punktology Vol. 1 – Free Cuba Now” CD late last year.

Well, now, I’m happy to report we are able to put out their debut CD, Medellin Es Punk which also includes “Espinas Assesinas”. It’s over at Punk Outlaw Records where you can read more about the band, see some photos and videos and most importantly listen to some lengthy samples from the CD, gratis, free of charge of course.

If you dig any of the songs and / or the CD you can buy and download at i-Tunes, CD Baby or Amazon Music too.

Enjoy and stay tuned on the Punk Outlaw Records front. It’s going to be a busy spring.

PUNK OUTLAW RECORDS’ COMPILATION “FREE CUBA NOW!” ON I-TUNES & AMAZON MUSIC

- Punk Musicians from Latin America & Caribbean Join Label’s Protest of Treatment of Cuban Punks –

New York, NY – December 7th, 2011Punk Outlaw® Records announced the release of their first compilation collection, Punktology Volume 1 – Free Cuba Now! The compilation features independent punk and hardcore music from Latin America and the Caribbean and is available on a variety of platforms including i-Tunes, Amazon Music , CD Baby and other leading digital music retailers.

The collection strives to showcase a variety of punk music from Latin America and the Caribbean to North American and European audiences.  The title “Free Cuba Now” was chosen to help bring attention to the fact that Cuban punks, as well as many other subcultures on the island nation of Cuba, still suffer from suppression of their freedom of expression at the hands of the Cuban government.

The musical compilation is the first from the fledgling music label and features artists covered in the documentary “Punktology”, which is currently in production at Punk Outlaw’s® production banner  and hopes to help shed light on the worldwide influence of punk music in unlikely places, like Cuba.

“While working on the documentary, I visited Cuba and witnessed firsthand the incredible lack of basic freedom of expression we take for granted in much of the western world, when one of our interviewees was arrested for simply speaking to us” states Robert G. Rose, Founder of Punk Outlaw Records and Executive Producer of Punktology. “Punk music is at its best when it’s railing against injustice. This music comes from a variety of bands from different countries, each with their own issues such as social inequality, government corruption and crippling poverty. Yet  freedom of expression is a basic human right that most enjoy and we think Cubans and all human beings deserve this right as well.” Rose continues.

Punk Outlaw Records has pledged 25% of the record label’s share of net profits to charitable organizations whose missions are to help Cubans, including, Cuba Skate, a U.S. based charity providing skateboarding equipment, clothing and better opportunities for Cuban youth.

Participating artists for the project hail from a variety of countries including: Los Suziox (Colombia), Rudos Wild (Uruguay), Anti-Everything (Trinidad), DMTR (Ecuador), El Terrible Y Los Mongoloides (Peru), Lokekeda (Colombia), Warning (Guatemala) and Fertil Miseria (Colombia).

The compilation is currently available for purchase at various digital online retailers including I-tunes, Amazon Music, Zune and more.  Visit www.PunkOutlawRecords.com and www.Punktologycd.com for more information and to view a promotional video trailer.

COMPILACIÓN “FREE CUBA NOW!”

Punk Outlaw Shirts and Stuff

// November 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // Photos

So as I’ve been traveling I’ve been taking a few Punk Outlaw Shirts, stickers, etc. with me to give away. If I interviewed you and I didn’t give you a shirt, please don’t be offended, that just means I either (A) ran out or (B) didn’t have your  size. I mean I do have to carry actual clothes to wear and camera gear and stuff and with airlines charging for every little bag, well, I hope you understand.

Men's Punk Outlaw Tank

While I get a kick out of giving stuff away I also realize that spending money on stuff just to give it away is not a great business model. So while the shirts are certainly not about the money (if they were trust me, I’d spend MUCH more time, effort, design etc. behind them), I do get inquiries from people who want to know how they can buy them from time to time.

Women's Tank

Well, my good friends, Cecilia who makes the shirts for me at her store called “Live Fast” in the lower east side, has graciously volunteered to sell Punk Outlaw merchandise on her store’ online section.

LiveFast’s Punk Outlaw section is not up yet, but when it goes up I’ll provide a direct link but in the meantime, she’s got some really cool stuff so you may want to check it out HERE.

Live Fast - NYC

And if you live in NYC, go visit Cecilia and the gang at Live Fast down in LES. They always have reasonable prices and and stuff on clearance and even some previously worn stuff in the basement so there is something for every budget.

In my experience, Live Fast is really the best psychobilly/rockabilly/punk inspired clothing store I’ve come across in NYC (and no, I’m not getting paid or even free merch for this endorsement.. damn! But I love it. Keep it up you cynical bunch!).

In the meantime, I’m moving to Latin America for a few months soon and you know that means. Well, it means a lot of things but one of them is cleaning house, getting rid of stuff.

So I put a few excess Punk Outlaw shirts on E-bay and the best thing about buying from here is part of the proceeds (25%) go to a great cause to prevent childhood hunger. It’s a little more expensive there as a result but if you got the dough, like the shirts and want to support a good cause, just click the pics below to to the store.

MENS TANKS & T SHIRTS

PO Men's Tank - Black (Click Pic to Go to Ebay Store)

WOMEN’S TANKS:

PO Women's Tank (Click Pic to Go to Ebay Store)

BUT fair warning, if you want a shirt from E-bay, make it quick, because I’m off to Latin America in one week and after that, I’ll have to wait until I return to the states in the spring to fulfill any orders.

KAI D. Utility Jeans & Shirt

Speaking of clothing stores, if you got a little more cash to spend and dig a retro, throw back style, I really recommend this store down on Lower East Side as well. It’s called Kai/Utility and yes, in full disclosure these guys did provide me with clothing at a steep discount for a photo shoot I had back in the Spring.

What I like about this store is that the designs are original but based on the retro workman’s look of the 30s and 40s. Now it is pricey but that is just how it goes when your dealing with a small store for an individual designer. If you have the money, you’ll know that you got a one of a kind design and probably not have to worry about anyone else wearing the same thing no matter where you go.

You can check out KAI-Utility’s online store HERE!

Punk Outlaw Stickers in Russia

Whew, enough selling! I feel like such a corrupt capitalist pig! Sorry! So lets end this crass commercial crap with something a little more, shall we say visual.

Colombia

I’ve included some photos of people wearing Punk Outlaw Gear in places as diverse as Cuba, Colombia and Russia.

If you have any Punk Outlaw gear and want me to feature you on here, just email me the photos and I’ll definitely show you some love.

Sophia - Perm, Russia

And if your running low on $, don’t fret, when you see me out, it never hurts to ask for a shirt. Who knows, I might just have your size on me!! And I will for sure have a sticker and if I don’t, then make my sorry ass mail you one.

AIM TELL-A-VISION GROUP LAUNCHES “PUNK OUTLAW RECORDS”

// September 14th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Events

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AIM TELL-A-VISION GROUP LAUNCHES PUNK OUTLAW RECORDS
- Emerging Label Signs Two Latin American Punk Bands, “Rudos Wild” & “Los Suziox” -

New York, NY September 14th, 2010The AIM Tell-A-Vision® Group (AIM TV) announced today the launch of “Punk Outlaw Records” as part of their “Punk Outlaw® Productions content banner. The digital record label will initially focus on 360 degree partnerships importing music from emerging punk & independent artists.

AIM TV Founder, Robert G. Rose, formed Punk Outlaw Records when traveling abroad gathering material for his documentary “Punktology…The Worldwide Influence of Punk”. Rose witnessed firsthand that the DIY (Do It Yourself) spirit of punk music was very much alive and thriving in places where artists sacrificed tremendously to make music in the face of incredibly challenging circumstances.

The new record label’s roster of recently signed artists include “Rudos Wild” (Rough and Wild), a raucous, in your face punk and punkabilly band from Montevideo, Uruguay that has been performing since 2003. Rudos Wild plays straight up classic punk rock heavily influenced by rockabilly, psychobilly and artists such as Social Distortion, The Misfits, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Stray Cats, The Clash, Tiger Army, The Living End and Reverend Horton Heat to name a few. Rudos Wild has independently recorded two full length CDs and toured extensively in Uruguay, Argentina and Chile.

Punk Outlaw Records also recently signed “Los Suziox” (The Dirty) a talented punk band hailing from the working class barrios of Medellin, Colombia. Los Suziox (LSZX) has independently recorded several tracks with a large repertoire of socially conscious songs that has garnered them legions of loyal fans in their native Colombia and throughout Latin America. LSZX’s musical influences are diverse and include bands like Stiff Little Fingers, Klamydia, The Addicts, The Clash, Konflikt, Ramones, Minor Threat, The Meteors & Stray Cats to name a few.

“Latin America is a hotbed of punk music and culture. Rudos Wild and Los Suziox represent the diversity and quality of the music being made there.” states Robert G. Rose, president of Punk Outlaw Records.

“American Latinos having a rich history of contributions and are a powerful force in the punk, psychobilly and rockabilly scenes in the U.S. today. With the changing nature of the music business and the declining influence of major labels, now is the perfect time to start an indie label that will help artists get their music to a wider audience. Our goal is to provide a platform to expose talented artists to a group of fans otherwise not able to experience important music that demands to be heard” Rose continues.

AIM TV Group and Punk Outlaw are wholly owned subsidiaries of Artist and Idea Management, Ltd, the pioneering creators of the long running, English language syndicated television series, American Latino TV and LatiNation which were sold to Los Angeles based LATV Networks in 2008 and are still airing in the U.S. via broadcast syndication and cable today.

SPANISH VERSION – COMUNICADO DE PRENSA

AIM TELL-A-VISION GROUP LANZA PUNK OUTLAW RECORDS

Medellin Colombia’s Los Suziox Interview & Video Segment

// May 3rd, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Videos

I’ve dug deeper in the punk scene of Medellin, Colombia for a couple reasons. 1) I’m in love with Medellin and as a result am more familiar with the city and the scene there 2) There is a damn good punk scene in Medellin.

As many of you may have read before, I am very high on a band there called “Los Suziox” which roughly translated means “The Dirty”.  While in Medellin last month I went by lead singer, Andres’ house and saw first hand the music studio he had ingeniously installed in his house. I tell you, the heights people go to get their music heard in Latin America puts many musicians (and people) to shame in the U.S.

So much talent in the U.S. can’t make a meeting on time, or return an email promptly but the punk bands in Latin America are killing themselves against impossible circumstances to simply be able to play their music and have it heard.

Well, I believe, Los Suziox time has come. Their music is too original, the lyrics too powerful and the melodies too infectious for their music not to be heard by a wider audience. It’s time for Medellin, Colombia to let their best kept secret out of the bag and share Los Suziox with the rest of the world.

Here is an exclusive interview and segment on Los Suziox. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Bogota’s Punk Beauty

// April 22nd, 2010 // 15 Comments » // Photos

Erika in Bogota

I first spotted Erika at the Casualties show in Medellin, Colombia back in December. Believe me when I say she stood out from the crowd.

I assumed she lived in Medellin, but turns out she lives in Bogota and traveled to Medellin for the show rather than see the show in Bogota.

There is a very distinct punk vibe between the two cities and besides Medellin is a great place to visit, nice and green, less congested and easier to get around, so I get it.

On this return trip to Colombia, I interviewed Erika and her friend Leonardo, a big hardcore fan, my first night in Bogota en route to Medellin. Stupidly I had forgotten to take a photo so I asked her if she’d be willing to let me take some photos of her when I pass back through Bogota a week later, and she graciously agreed.

I still haven’t replaced my Nikon SLR camera that got stolen back in February, so I was forced to photograph using my small Panasonic Lumix camera and from the photo feature on my Sony HD Video Camera and both did a good job. But I have a feeling it’s the model, Erika, against the gritty backdrop of downtown Bogota’s La Candelaria barrio that makes these photos decent.

I got to know Erika a bit during our shoot and she’s a lot more than just a pretty punk girl. Not only is this girl a drummer in a hardcore band, she also designs, makes and sells punk and rock clothing accessories (earrings, studded necklaces, belts, etc.) while attending school for communication.

Pretty inspiring! When does she sleep? about 2-3 hours a night apparently. Well that’s cool cause this punk rock girl obviously does not need her beauty sleep. While walking around the streets of La Candelaria in Bogota, there were stares from men and women alike, but the men, in particular couldn’t help but commenting “que bonita, hola mami, etc.” but it didn’t seem to phase Erika one bit.

I guess she’s used to it and she is obviously a strong, independent punk girl. I also guess they don’t see a lot of punk rockers in La Candeleria area, at least not as pretty and at the same time hardcore as Erika. She said she listens mostly to English language punk music (and that’s how she has learned to speak some pretty decent English herself). Some of her favorite bands include The Casualties, The Unseen and Agnostic Front.

For the rest of the photos, check out here set at the PUNK OUTLAW’S FLIKR PAGE.

Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think.
